You heard that right…Self-knowledge is the path to personal freedom. I read that quote in a daily reader of mine and it reminded me of the truth behind that statement. When I am aware of myself, my body, my thoughts, my emotions, I am made more aware of how I interact in the world.
Here are some questions for you.
When someone you love asks you, how are you? What is your answer? Do you say, I am fine, how are you? Or are you honest with your answer? I am not talking about the person at the check out line that says how are you or the acquaintance you see on the street, I am talking about the people in your life that matter to you. Are you able to answer the question of how are you, with honesty? Are you able to answer that question honestly when you pose it to yourself?
I have a challenge for you. Today, ask that question of yourself and before you jump to the answer, I am fine, sit with it. Tune in to your body, do you notice any tension? Tune in to your thoughts, do you notice any self-talk that is no longer serving you. Tune in to your emotions and feel them.
How can Qigong help?
In Qigong, the very first thing we do is to tune in to our body and feel our energy. We stand in Wuji and scan our body to feel where we may be holding on to tension and discomfort. We feel where our Qi may be blocked. We feel where we may be holding back from the flow. Awareness is the second step in our process. Attention is our first. When we can give ourselves attention to feel our feelings, to feel our bodies and to hear our negative self-talk, we become aware of that which may be holding us back. Then and only then can we decide to do something about it.
Qigong for Summer is starting soon. In this class, we will learn to tune in to our bodies and feel our energy. The energy of summer is so different than the energy of winter. Summer is the full expression of Yang energy. Yang energy being electric, movement, masculine, light, sun, vigor, heat, outward, expanding, creative and powerful. Connecting to this energy in the season of summer helps us to bring balance and harmony to our lives and helps us tune in to nature and the ebb and flow of the seasons.It allows us the chance to connect to ourselves and what is really going on in our body, mind and soul.
